SPANISH AND KITE SURFING (ESPyKSF) IN CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA

Spanish and Kite surfing is a combination between the Spanish course you choose (in the mornings) and ten hours of individual instruction at the sea, in the afternoons.

 

　　

 

　　

ATTENTION: THIS COURSE CAN ONLY BE TAKEN BETWEEN DECEMBER AND MARCH GIVEN THAT THIS IS THE WINDY SEASON OF THE YEAR.

 

These courses are personalized and you will count all the time with the assistance of an instructor, ensuring a very important issue for the school, which is  safety, not only yours but also spectators’ and tourists’ visiting the beach.

The course is oriented to those people who want to get initiated in the surf world. It can be practiced by children and older people as well. The course is structured as follows:

  • Introduction (Kite surf world)
  • Safety first
  • Wind, terminology and wind windows
  • Structure and basics of kiting
  • Ensuring the flight lines to the kite
  • Handling of kites
  • Exercises with kites under the water
  • Perimeters of sailing


What is kite boarding?

Kite boarding is surfing using a kite. This sport consists of skidding over the sea on a board, using the propulsion provided by a kite, which is tied to the kite holder by two or four lines fixed to his/her body with a harness. The board used for kite boarding is too much smaller than the one used for windsurfing, which can be unidirectional or bidirectional.

The patent of kite boarding is disputed between the French and the Americans, who concomitantly tried to fusion the practice of water sky and paragliding, but it wasn’t before the new millennium that this sport was widespread known.  The avant-gardes of this discipline never suspected that years later their invention would have a resounding success, as it doesn’t imply a usual routine.

What’s necessary:

 

 


Helmet: its use is necessary for protection, as falls from heights are dangerous.

Flight lines: these are ropes capable of carrying twice the burden of the kite holder; they have a length between 20 and 40 meters.

Control bar: it’s used to control the direction of the kite, where the flight lines are tied to. It has an emergency device which allows the releasing of the kite holder, in case of emergency.

Harness: it fixes the body to the kite; it can be chair-shaped or waist-shaped.

Kite: its size and shape vary according to the use and proficiency level of the kite holder. There are four types: inflatable, foils, arched and frames. Each one is different and designed to cover the demands of all the people who practice this sport.

Unidirectional boards: are used by apprentices to have a bit more of stability.

Bidirectional boards: used by veterans of the sport, they enable them to reach high speeds and perform amazing and exhilarating stunts. Their structure is symmetric and they have a place in the middle of the board to place your feet.

Lifejacket: it’s necessary to use it as a lifesaver, as none of the boards can be used as a floater.

Garment: the wet suite is wore, a special suite that protects the body from high temperatures.

The school will provide all the necessary implements such as:

  • Helmets
  • Life jackets
  • Harness
  • Board
  • Kite

The instructor will give you all the necessary classes for you to be able to go on your own to open waters (up to ten hours). Kite boarding classes are taken in association with the best kite boarding school of the city.
